LM2596 Calculator – Online External Resistor Calculator
The lm2596 calculator is an online tool that will help in the voltage regulator design process. It is an adjustable three terminal positive voltage regulator. To set the fixed output voltage of the LM2596 IC, two external resistors are required, this online tool calculates the values quickly and accurately.
An LM2596 -ADJ is a 3-terminal adjustable step-down switching voltage regulator IC which is easy for convenient design of buck converter.
LM2596 CALCULATOR TOOL
To use the above lm2596 resistor calculator online tool, simply type the value of targeted voltage value to be regulated, and the value of resistor R1. The calculator tool will then calculate the value of the R2 resistor.

^Input values for Vo must range from 1.23 to 37V. Always check for Standard available value of resistor, or you can use customized resistor. Default value of resistor R1 here is 1KΩ.
Due to its 150 kHz switching frequency, LM2596 requires smaller filter components compared to that would be required by lower frequency switching regulators. As it is a switching regulator, the internal reference voltage of the lm2596 is more precisely adjustable, with the output current supplying capability of 3.0 Amp or more. Also, it has wide input range (Vi) up to 40 Volts.
A designer or engineer can calculate resistor values with this tool quickly at ease, without the need to calculate complex formulae or manual calculations.
The formula for regulated output voltage is:
Vo = 1.23 x (1 + R2/R1)
Where,
R2 and R1 are external feedback resistor or shunt resistors or programming resistor. The programming resistor is there to provide feedback voltage to the regulator at which the output voltage is to regulate.

Using the lm2596 Resistor Calculator Online Tool
For example, suppose you want to use a lm2596 to regulate the output voltage of a power supply to 5V. The internal reference voltage of the lm2596 is 1.23V. Using the lm2596 calculator tool, you would input 5V to get regulated voltage. Choose R1 value, say (1kohm). The voltage LM2596 calculator tool would then calculate and display R2 resistors value (say 3 kilo-ohm).
Lm2596 comes with the features like, TTL shutdown, thermal shutdown, internal loop compensation, and cycle by cycle current limiting.
The tool will prevent calculation errors and circuit damage by accurately calculating resistor values based on the desired output voltage and lm2596’s continuous feedback voltage. The LM2596 has a lot of applications not limiting to negative power supply solutions, efficient pre regulator for linear regulator, high efficiency buck regulator and so on
